Sierra Leone is a country of about 71,740 sq km and a population of 6 million. During the eighteenth century was an important center of slave trade. At the end of that century, the British decided to free slaves and return to Africa. After much discussion recently elected a territory that would later become known as Sierra Leone. Over the next 50 years, the British navy landed 70,000 slaves in Freetown. They independence in 1961, however between 1991 and 2001, there was a devastating civil war in the country, which plunged into poverty.

AFcom has been officially committed by the National Telecommunication Committee (NATCOM) in Sierra Leone to manage the dot SL.

These are the prices for new registrations and renewals for one .sl domain:

Private registrations are additional $7 per year per domain (By the way, they have not implemented the whois service yet). Three letters domains are premium domains - $250 registration fee will be added to the fees above. It’s possible to register domains under .sl, .com.sl, .org.sl and .net.sl.

Valid characters for a domain are letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (-). Though, domain cannot start or end with a hyphen. Also, two consecutive hyphens are not valid. Ther are reserved names such as company, example, icann, ripe, www, root-servers. Also domains that promote or praise hatred, violence, child pornography, racial or religious intolerance will be rejected.

Reassign domain name to another holder, or change of ownership should be done by email. The request to reassign should be submitted from the registrant email address and must be confirmed by the new and the old registrant. Reassignment of domain registrant is the same process of deleting a domain and then registering it to another holder, merged to one action. The price for reassignment of domain registrant is the price for one year registration which is $50. The expiration date of the domain is reset to the date the reassign took place.

Auto renew is not possible at the moment. The domain contacts (registrant, administrative, and technical) will receive a notice when a domain is about to expire. If payment for renewal has not been issued on time, the domain will go into Deleted Redemption Grace Period for 30 days, where the domain is removed from the zone file. During the grace period, registrants could redeem their registrations by paying renewal fees, plus a service charge.

They accept the following payment methods: PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Bank Wire Transfer and Cash (at AFcom offices at Freetown, Sierra Leone).
